The reigning NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers are in the NBA finals. That really didn’t surprise anyone. The ease in which they were able to get to the finals, if it is ever easy, was probably no surprise either. And, in reality, the Lakers losing one game to the Sun’s didn’t really surprise anyone either.
Now, if the Lakers go into the next game against the Suns and come out losers, fans are going to start to worry. Phil Jackson has been pushing his team and doing his best to remind them that this is when they need to turn on the charm. He also gave them all a refresher course in beating the zone defense. Jackson said he had never seen a team play that much zone defense, especially in the NBA Finals, since the NBA legalized the defense in 2001-2002 season.
And, while Jackson was fretting how to make it all work out just right, Kobe Bryant, one of the leagues big stars seemed less than impressed. Bryant indicated that he had no worries really about the actual zone defense in the NBA finals. His concern was more about his own game, as if that surprises anyone. He said the reason the Sun’s won was they made 37 of 42 free throws and indeed that is definitely one more way to go about getting a big win in the finals.
